SCHOLARSHIPS - School is not free in Kenya. Because of school fees, approximately 40% of Kenyan students are denied a secondary school education. This is a devastating reality that debilitates individuals, communities, and even the country. You can help - just $1000 per year ensures that a deserving student graduates, and in so doing helps her community and ultimately the animals that define her country. See stories at pa-mojastories.com.
BUTTERFLY EFFECT - is a program designed to give students the opportunity to interact with their counterparts from other parts of Canada, and Kenya. Butterfly Effect is a global, cross-curricular community where students work collaboratively to guide their own learning and to support the learning of others. The goal is for students to move beyond the school curriculum to discover and research areas of their own passion. In this global environment, students collaborate rather than compete; they are encouraged to give and find inspiration for their ideas, to develop leadership skills, and to learn in a supportive, flexible online community that is accessible anywhere, anytime. PLEASE PROVIDE OPPORTUNITY RATHER THAN CHARITY. Remember that mosquito nets, clothing, shoes or food products manufactured in western countries and distributed to Kenya only serve to put Kenyan merchants and manufacturers out of business. AND when, for example, the mosquito net zealots, spurred on by a celebrity promotional campaign, move on to the next project, Kenyans are left in the lurch. Their donated nets are unravelling and their Kenyan suppliers are long gone. Now what? Think about it.
