Gifts-in-kind
Do you have a collection of books or memorabilia? Are you able to donate equipment, supplies or services that the Langley School District could use? If so, you could make a gifts-in-kind donation. Many gifts-in-kind are eligible for the same kinds of tax benefits and recognition as other gifts. The gift is assessed and, if eligible, a tax receipt is issued based on the current fair market value.
Scholarships
You may want to donate towards a scholarship for a Langley student on a one-time basis or annually. You may set up a trust with the scholarship amounts given to the student from accrued interest. When setting up a scholarship you may decide on the criteria and eligibility of the recipient.
Insurance policy
Insurance policies enable you to make a significant, lasting gift to the Langley School District, with minimal outlay of current savings or income. By taking out a life insurance policy with Langley School District Foundation designated as the beneficiary, you will receive a tax receipt for the policy premiums you pay each year. When you pass away, the proceeds from the policy will go to the Foundation, towards a project or fund you have personally selected. Recent legislation provides expanded opportunities to plan the timing of receipts and may permit the avoidance of some estate settlement costs.
Charitable remainder trust
A charitable remainder trust enables you to do three things: leave a planned gift, realize some tax benefits from that gift, and play a role in determining how that gift will be utilized. Entering into a trust agreement essentially leaves a significant gift to the Langley School District Foundation while you are still alive. The actual gift -- or capital -- has been legally promised to the Foundation as part of your estate, but you still receive the income on that capital, such as interest on its investment. You will also receive a tax receipt for the donation immediately, which can be applied toward current and future income.
Corporate matching funds
We can double your gift. If you designate your gift to an endowment fund it makes your gift eligible for matching funds through the Langley School District Foundation’s matching program thus doubling the impact of your contribution.
In memoriam or in honour
If you would like to honour the memory of a friend, family member, teacher or colleague who has passed away, a memorial gift to the Langley School District Foundation is often an appropriate method. A memorial scholarship or bursary, named in honour of the individual is a meaningful way to create a legacy.

Monthly giving & payroll deductions
You may donate a specific amount monthly on your credit card or through monthly bank withdrawals. If you are a staff member with the Langley School District you can set up a monthly payroll deduction.
Securities & shares
Gifts of securities or shares are ideal donations for individuals who have much of their finances tied up in investments. The tax benefits of this type of gift -- especially if the shares have appreciated significantly -- can be surprisingly high.
Bequests & wills
You can choose to leave some or all of your estate to the Langley School District Foundation, including money, investments, property, real estate or other parts of your estate. By indicating your wish to donate in your will, you can make a substantial gift that will not encroach on your current lifestyle. And, as never before, the charitable benefits available may significantly reduce your income taxes.
Gifts plus annuity plan
The Gift Plus Annuity Plan combines your gift to the Langley School District Foundation with an annuity which the Foundation purchases on your behalf through a licensed insurance company. Your guaranteed annuity payments will continue throughout your lifetime, unaffected by changes in the economy or interest rates. If you wish, the annuity can be written to cover you and your spouse through your lifetimes. The exact amount of your annuity will depend on your age, the size of your contribution and the annuity rates in effect at the time of your gift. Depending on your age, a portion of your annuity payments will be tax-free. Older individuals will receive entirely tax-free payments plus donation receipts. The portion of your contribution not required for the annuity will be used by the Langley School District Foundation as you direct. It could be put to immediate use or invested until it grows to equal your original contribution.
Endowment Fund
You may want to establish a named Endowment Fund with the Langley School District Foundation. An endowment fund is held in trust in perpetuity. The interest from the fund is distributed on an annual basis according to the wishes of the donor. To establish your own named endowment a minimum contribution of $5,000 is required. This contribution can be made over a period of time through a series of donations.
